Pulp & Beyond Excursion 2026 – Student Experience to Tallinn

PI invites students and doctoral researchers to join an unforgettable excursion on Thursday, April 16, combining a company visit to UPM, and a 22-hour cruise to Tallinn.


Programme Overview

The day begins at the Pulp & Beyond Student Day at Messukeskus (Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre). During the event, you’ll have the chance to:

  • Get inspired by the latest innovations in the forest-based bioeconomy
  • Meet leading companies in the industry
  • Gain valuable career insights and tips
  • Network in a relaxed and student-friendly environment

In the afternoon, the programme continues with a company visit to UPM’s headquarters in Helsinki. After the visit, we head to the port and board the cruise to Tallinn.

  • 14:20 Gathering at a designated meeting point
  • 15:00 Bus departs for UPM headquarters
  • 15:15 Arrival at UPM headquarters
  • 15:30 Programme at UPM begins (some refreshements)
  • 17:15 Bus departs for the terminal
  • 17:40 Arrival at the terminal
  • 18:35 Cruise departs from Helsinki

Friday, April 17, 2026

  • 08:00–12:10 Free time in Tallinn
    (Please note: boarding gates close sharply at 12:10 – return to the terminal in good time.)
  • 12:30 Departure from Tallinn
  • 16:00 Arrival in Helsinki

The Cruise Experience

The excursion includes a 22-hour cruise on Victoria I (operated by AS Tallink Grupp):

Thursday, April 16

  • Departure at 18:35 – Helsinki (West Terminal 2)
  • Arrival at 22:00 – Tallinn (D-Terminal)

Friday, April 17

  • Departure at 12:30 – Tallinn (D-Terminal)
  • Arrival at 16:00 – Helsinki (West Terminal 2)

During the cruise, you will have approximately 4 hours to explore Tallinn on Friday morning.

If you have made a pre-booking for the breakfast or lunch buffet on April 17, you can attend the buffet directly without paying on-site. You can also choose to pay for the buffet on-site. More information about the buffet and other dining options on board is available here.

Accommodation is arranged in four-person cabins. The onboard programme is flexible—you can network with other participants, relax, or enjoy the ship’s facilities. The experience can be as social or as laid-back as you prefer.


Participation

  • The excursion is exclusively for PI members
  • Participation in the Tallinn cruise requires attendance at the Pulp & Beyond fair
  • Places are limited
