Cellulose-based textiles changing the fashion business

Welcome to the ForestBioFacts webinar!

ForestBioFacts webinar: Cellulose-based textiles changing the fashion business proudly presented by Finnish Forest Products Engineers’ Association (PI), and scheduled for March 26th at 15:00-16.30 EET. Register by March 25th to secure your spot!

The future of textiles is in wood. Currently, approximately 60 percent of the materials used in fashion business are made of fossil-based polymers. Wood- and cellulose-based textile fibre innovations play an important role in replacing fossil-based raw materials thus decreasing the impact on environment and creating new business opportunities.

Join us in the webinar where we delve into how wood- and cellulose-based textiles are reshaping the landscape of sustainable and circular textile practices. During the webinar, we discuss how regulation can enable the sector to become greener and more competitive, explore the pivotal role of sustainable chemistry, and present one of the latest innovations in the field; wood-based fleece.

Sarianne Tikkanen works as a policy officer at the European Commission, DG Environment, Unit B1 Circular Economy, Sustainable Production and Consumption. Her work relates to implementation of the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles and Circular Economy Action Plan, as well as to promoting circularity in bioeconomy.

Stefan Winklehner has a B.Sc. in Wood and Natural Fiber Technology and an M.Sc. in Fiber and Polymer Engineering. Before joining Kemira, he worked in Marketing and Sales at UPM Specialty Papers and in Business Development at Fortum Bio2X. At Kemira, Stefan serves as a Business Creation Manager for Textile Fiber Additives. His role involves supporting start-ups and established companies with Kemira’s chemistry in the areas Textile Recycling, Man-made Cellulosic Fiber production, and Nonwoven Production.

Gerd Unkelbach studied chemistry and has been working on the sustainable production of materials and chemicals based on renewable raw materials since 2005. After roughly 20 years in different positions at the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft he changed mid 2022 to UPM as R&D-director polymers and molecular bioproducts. He is a member of various committees and the deputy chairman of the board of the BioEconomy cluster.

ForestBioFacts webinars are organised in cooperation with upcoming international event Pulp & Beyond, which will be held in Helsinki, Finland on 9-12 April 2024.

ForestBioFacts is a comprehensive digital learning environment with everything you need to know about forest-based products and technologies. We are presenting interesting developments around each of the 16 themes of ForestBioFacts.
