Domestic Travel Grant for Thesis Students
The travel grant is awarded in the form of a 10-trip VR multi-journey ticket for domestic rail travel between the student's university location and the locality where their thesis work is carried out.
The purpose of the grant is to encourage students to accept thesis positions in forest industry mill locations by helping to cover travel costs.
To be eligible, the applicant must:
- have accepted a verified thesis position (Bachelor's thesis at a University of Applied Sciences or Master's thesis) outside their place of study; and
- demonstrate a need to travel between their university location and the thesis location.
The maximum value of the grant corresponds to the price of a 10-trip VR Eco Class multi-journey ticket between Helsinki and Oulu (€340 in 2025).
The grant is not paid in cash. It is awarded solely as a 10-trip VR multi-journey ticket based on the applicant's strong academic performance and demonstrated motivation to work in the forest industry at a mill location.
Applications for the Domestic Travel Grant for Thesis Students are accepted throughout the year. Grant recipients are selected by the Board of the Finnish Forest Products Engineers' Association.
